- Katherine Ely
Katherine Ely is an Advanced Trainee working under supervision at Mind Matters, specializing in IQ testing, pediatric psychology, and perinatal psychology.
As a health psychologist passionate about women's health issues and the impact of perinatal health on children, Katherine brings a unique holistic perspective to her work, understanding clients within the full context of their physical health, lifestyle, environment, relationships, and spiritual and cultural influences.
Katherine's approach is deeply client-centered, viewing each person as the expert of their own experience while bringing endless curiosity and dedication to truly seeing and understanding each individual. Her strengths-based, trauma-informed assessment style emphasizes building supportive relationships that foster self-awareness, empower clients to identify their capabilities, and increase the resilience and agency needed to thrive.
Working with children, adolescents, and their families, Katherine helps facilitate understanding of challenges while identifying strengths and connecting families with available resources. She supports clients in deepening their understanding of their unique learning, social-emotional, and behavioral patterns, while also helping them navigate important life transitions with confidence and clarity.
Beyond her core specialties, Katherine assesses clients experiencing ADHD, anxiety, depression, and learning differences, always taking a comprehensive and holistic approach. Her background in health psychology allows her to consider how physical health, medical factors, and life circumstances intersect with learning and emotional functioning—connections that might be overlooked in more traditional assessments.
What sets Katherine apart is her commitment to understanding the whole person within their complete life context. Her family systems approach recognizes that children and adolescents don't exist in isolation but are part of complex networks of relationships and influences. This perspective allows her to develop recommendations that are not only clinically sound but also realistic and sustainable within each family's unique circumstances.
Katherine's goal is for clients to feel well-resourced with both knowledge and agency to support healthy habits, engage in appropriate settings and supportive communities, and develop empowerment toward self-advocacy. She hopes clients will feel truly seen and become more curious about their own needs, preferences, strengths, and challenges.
As a San Francisco native and Bay Area enthusiast, Katherine brings deep local knowledge to her practice, understanding the unique educational landscape and community resources available to families in the region. Her long-standing connections to the area, including friendships dating back to preschool, reflect her appreciation for enduring relationships and community connections.
Outside of her clinical work, Katherine enjoys cycling (both indoor and outdoor), exploring the beautiful Bay Area and surrounding natural wonders, dancing to live music, and being an active participant in her local community—frequenting neighborhood eateries, galleries, fitness studios, and farmers markets as a cherished regular.
